Baykar Tests Swarm-Ready K2, Extending Loitering Munition Reach to 2,000 Km

Baykar has flight-tested its K2 loitering munition in coordinated formations, pushing Turkey deeper into AI-enabled swarm warfare.

During trials over the Gulf of Saros, the K2 operated with four additional unmanned aircraft and flew in line, V, and right echelon formations. The drones used onboard sensors and autonomy software to hold position, preserve spacing, and execute synchronized maneuvers. The tests showed that the system is being developed not just as a single-use strike platform, but as part of a coordinated group able to move together with limited human input.

Baykar describes the K2 as an AI-powered kamikaze drone with a reach of up to 2,000 kilometers. That range gives the platform significance beyond a typical loitering munition, especially when paired with formation flight and autonomous coordination. A system that can travel long distances and operate in groups could support missions such as long-range strikes, air defense suppression, or saturation attacks using multiple lower-cost unmanned assets instead of crewed aircraft.

The K2’s latest trials highlight Baykar’s effort to move beyond conventional armed drones and into networked loitering munitions built for collaborative combat. If the program matures as planned, it could strengthen Turkey’s long-range unmanned strike options and sharpen Baykar’s position in the rapidly expanding military drone market.
