GDU unveils UAV-P300 drone for fog, rain and low-visibility missions

Chinese drone maker GDU has unveiled the UAV-P300, a new aircraft built to operate in fog, rain and smoke.

The drone was introduced at CES in Las Vegas on Jan. 7 and is aimed at public safety agencies, smart city operators, surveyors and cultural tourism managers. GDU said the UAV-P300 is the world’s first AI-powered optical and electronic fog-penetrating drone. The company said it can deliver up to 50% clearer vision in rain or fog, while also offering long-range autonomous flight and advanced night imaging.

The product is positioned for field operations that cannot wait for clear weather. Public safety teams could use it during emergencies when smoke, rain or fog cuts visibility for human responders. City departments could deploy it for routine infrastructure inspections with fewer weather-related delays. Surveyors could use it to gather more consistent data across large and uneven terrain. Cultural tourism authorities could document heritage sites without bringing in heavier equipment or causing disruption.

GDU highlighted five core capabilities: visibility that holds up as weather deteriorates, imaging from daylight through deep night, long-distance observation without close exposure, reliable flight without satellite positioning, and real-time target measurement and marking. If those claims hold in live operations, the UAV-P300 could expand where and when drones can be used, especially in missions where poor visibility now limits response, inspection and documentation.
