Wing and Walmart Expand Drone Delivery in Dallas-Fort Worth

Wing and Walmart are expanding drone delivery across Dallas-Fort Worth. The Alphabet-owned drone delivery company is adding service from more Walmart locations in the metroplex, widening access to store-to-home deliveries that began in the region in 2022.

The service is available from four Walmart stores as of April 29, 2024. The locations are 9101 N Tarrant Parkway and 6401 NE Loop 820 in North Richland Hills, with the NE Loop 820 site beginning operations that day; 8555 Preston Road in Frisco; and 801 W Main Street in Lewisville.

The expansion supports Walmart’s plan to offer drone delivery to as much as 75% of the Dallas-Fort Worth population. Customers order through the Wing Drone Delivery app and can choose from thousands of items, including groceries, snacks and over-the-counter medicines.

Walmart employees prepare each order and attach the package to a drone. The aircraft flies autonomously to the customer’s property, lowers the package by tether to the specified delivery spot, then returns to the store, lands on a charging pad and readies for the next trip.

Wing’s drones can fly at speeds of up to 65 mph and run continuous health checks during operation. The rollout moves drone delivery closer to a mainstream retail service in Dallas-Fort Worth, giving more households a faster delivery option while reducing reliance on road-based trips for small orders.
