MySky ECO and Airwayz launch long-range UAV program for autonomous BVLOS flights

MySky ECO and Airwayz are developing a next-generation long-range UAV system for autonomous beyond-visual-line-of-sight operations in the United States.

The project has been selected for funding under the Space Florida-Israel Innovation Partnership Program and is aimed at proving that a fully autonomous drone platform can operate in regulated, complex airspace. The effort targets one of the industry’s biggest hurdles: integrating unmanned aircraft into real-world, high-traffic environments without disrupting conventional aviation.

The system will combine MySky ECO’s MS-1D UAV platform with Airwayz’s AI-based unmanned traffic management software. MySky said the aircraft draws on its eco-efficient light aviation technology, while Airwayz’s platform is built to coordinate multiple drone fleets in real time, manage dynamic airspace, and keep unmanned and manned aircraft safely separated through strategic and tactical deconfliction tools. That combination is intended to support long-range missions in airspace where traffic density and regulatory demands leave little room for error.

Development is already underway, and flight testing is scheduled for the end of the year. The companies plan to evaluate the system across several high-impact missions, including medical and organ transport, emergency delivery, package logistics, search and rescue, and border reconnaissance. Those use cases require a drone that can fly fast, cover long distances, and operate from short or unimproved runways. If the program meets its goals, it could strengthen the case for broader deployment of long-range autonomous UAVs in U.S. civil airspace.
