The aim is straightforward: give inspection teams clearer asset information while reducing some manual access requirements.

A drone inspection can cover pylons, conductors, insulators and the surrounding access areas. These sites often combine height, difficult terrain, live assets and large network footprints, making conventional inspection work complex and time-consuming. By flying around selected assets or along corridors, drones can gather data that supports condition assessment, asset records and maintenance planning.

Zoom cameras allow detailed visual checks from a safer distance, helping teams record visible issues without immediately relying on close manual access. Thermal sensors can support heat-related checks where conditions and equipment are suitable. LiDAR can help map powerline corridors, nearby terrain, access routes and vegetation information that may be relevant to network management.

Planning remains central to any drone operation near electrical infrastructure. Live environments require appropriate procedures, suitable equipment and clear safety controls before flights are carried out. Drones can reduce the need for some manual pylon access, but each inspection still depends on a safe operating method and a defined data requirement.
